About Argos

Vensur was established in 1965 as a joint venture between Kersten and Venezolana de Cementos.
Vensur is the only producer of fresh cement in Suriname. The company has been a cornerstone of the Surinamese building and construction sector for more than 40 years. It has weathered a number of economic storms that have hit Suriname since its establishment.
As a member of the Building and Construction Division of Kersten, Vensur is now in a good position to move on to the next phase in the growth process.

Vensur supplies the best quality of cement to over 300 customers in Suriname.
Vensur cement is made according to the highest quality standards regarding the composition of raw materials, the fineness of the product and storage quality. Vensur manufactures Portland type 1 cement, which is of excellent quality and complies with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards.
It is manufactured with Blaine fineness between 3.500 and 3.700 (standard > 2.800) and thus suitable for all sorts of high-strength concrete constructions.
In the Suriname market, compared to the import competition, Vensur cement has a longer storage life due to the “fresh” supply.

Joint Venture with Argos
C. Kersten en Co. N.V. (“Kersten”) and Cementos Argos S.A. (“Argos”) have been business partners for 40 years. Cementos Argos is the leader in the Colombian cement industry, with 51% of market share. It is the fourth largest cement producer in Latin America with investments in Panama, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. It is the sixth largest concrete producer in the United States and also exports cement and clinker to more than 25 countries. At the end of 2009 Argos’ market value of the issued share capital was over USD 6.1 billion.

The experience, and the technical knowledge of Argos combined with Kersten’s reputation and solid performance in the past 242 years, ensures continuity and a stronger Vensur.

With the realization of the plant upgrade and the mill overhaul in 2011, the production capacity has doubled, which led to a significant increase of the local market share.
From a strong position in the local market, Vensur is now ready to meet export challenges within the Caricom market and surrounding countries.
